The Casa de Colón hosted this official presentation, which was attended by the president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales; the Director of Philately at Correos, Leire Díaz Castro; and the Artistic Director of the Sand Nativity Scene, Miguel Rodríguez, among other authorities.
The philatelic piece, part of the Regional Nativity Scenes series, reproduces one of the most emblematic sculptures from last year's edition, created in homage to the Canarian artist Pepe Dámaso and his iconic Angel of the Dunes . With this release, the Sand Nativity Scene gains unprecedented international recognition.
“How wonderful it is that we are making such an ephemeral art form as sand art permanent!” Díaz Castro remarked during the event. Morales, for his part, celebrated the initiative by Correos (the Spanish postal service) “which will help perpetuate this ephemeral work” and the legacy of one of the archipelago’s great artists.
